Udupi, Apr 23: The manifesto of Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Congress candidate Jayaprakash Hegde was released by former union minister Veerappa Moily at the Udupi district Congress office.
Speaking on the occasion Moily said, "Jayaprakash Hegde is the reason why Udupi became a separate district. He has done good work as MLA, minister, MP, chairman of the Backward Classes Commission. He has succeeded in getting many schemes sanctioned by the government for the people of this district. He appealed to the people of the district to win over him for the development to continue."
Key highlights of the manifesto:
Agriculture: Reviewing the areacnut research centre, implementation of Goraksingh report, establishment of KMF unit in Chikkamagaluru, GI tag certification for farm produce, to initiate celebration of April 15 as 'Malnad day'. Reservation of minimum 10 acre land to be allotted for land less people, interest free loans for fisher women, pension scheme for retired fishermen, inter state committee for resolving fishing related issues, permanent ban on illegal fishing conducted by outside state people.
Tourism: J P Hegde has also envisioned to install an air strip in Udupi and Chikkamagaluru districts. In view of developing the duo district into tourism hub - the manifesto proposes for eco friendly, sustainable tourism development with ease of the process for home stays, encouragement for sea side tourism.
Industry: Small and medium scale industry park in Brahmavar sugar factory land, creation of a fishing industrial corridor.
Health and education: Establishment of government medical college, establishment of engineering colleges in twin districts, creation of sports complex for promoting sports activities.
