Mangaluru: Mandd Sobhann inaugurates 'Voap' vacation camp for children

Mangaluru, Apr 27: Mandd Sobhann, a leading cultural organization of Konkani, has been organizing children's talent camps to fulfill its mission of preserving, nurturing and beautifying Konkani and handing it over to the next generation. The inauguration of this year's 'Voap', a 9-day vacation camp was held at Shaktinagar, Kalaangann on April 27.

Singer and musician Ritesh Ozario inaugurated the clay idol in a unique way by painting it gold. Famous dramatist Francis Fernandes, Cascia was the chief guest. President Louis Pinto was on the dais. The camp has received recognition from the university of Dr Gangubai Hanagal music and display arts, Mysuru.

Arun Raj Rodrigues gave an introductory address. Camp convener Victor Mathais gave details of programmes that will be held in the camp. Carol Madtha compered the programme.

As many as 31 girls and 27 boys from Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Udupi districts are participating in the camp. They will be learning dances or dramatics or singing and Konkani language, culture, public speaking, comparing of TV programmes and other programmes. They will present what they have learned to the public at the 269th monthly platform event on May 5.

The camps are being held since 1999. The camp participants who sharpened their talents have become famous in the cultural world.
