New Delhi, Oct 11: Iqbal Mirchi, known to be a close aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, has been arrested in London, CBI said here on Tuesday October 11.
"He was arrested on Tuesday for some offence committed in London," said Dharini Mishra, spokesperson of the CBI.
Mirchi, who had fled the country in 1995, a year after he was declared a proclaimed offender by the government, is key to Dawood's drug trade. He is also an accused in the 1993 Mumbai blast case.
He is also wanted by India for several murders and extortion cases.
The CBI is expected to seek his extradition from the UK with the help of UK police and Interpol.
Mirchi (61), whose actual name is Iqbal Menon, is a master drug peddler who started as a smuggler, and a regular flier between Dubai and London.
He had been detained earlier too in London but the UK police did not extradite him.
"We have to see if we can demand Mirchi's extradition once again now because we could not extradite him the last time," CBI sources told a news channel.
