Udupi CMC member accused of assaulting family over land dispute

Udupi, May 12: A Udupi City Municipal Council member has been accused of allegedly assaulting a family over a land issue.

According to the complaint filed by Savita (36) of Kakkunje in Udupi, Balakrishna Shetty, CMC member of Kakkunje ward and the complainant's husband, had disputes over their house property and garage owned by her husband. A complaint was also previously filed in this regard at the Manipal police station.

On May 11, around 7:30 pm, Balakrishna Shetty, accompanied by 29 others, approached the garage in Kakkunje and threatened to demolish it. They then allegedly assaulted Savita and her husband. At one point, Rakshitha Shetty, Raju, and Girish also reportedly joined in the assault using steel rods.

The complaint further alleges that the accused threatened to kill them while they were en route to the hospital for treatment of their injuries sustained during the altercation.

A complaint has been lodged at the Udupi women's police station.
