Puttur, May 13: The inauguration of the ‘Fundamentals of Cybersecurity’ certificate course was held in the Spandana Auditorium at St Philomena College, under the auspices of the Department of Computer Science.
The event was presided over by the principal, rev Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, who in his inaugural address highlighted the importance of distinguishing motivation and stimulation. He emphasized that students should seek inspiration from exemplary individuals without yielding to superficial incentives, and strive to live as better citizens. He congratulated the students who had opted for cybersecurity as their specialized subject and encouraged all to make the most of the extensive resources of the college to gain expertise in such contemporary subjects.
The chief guest, Kumar Guru from the ICT Academy, elaborated on the vast employment opportunities in cybersecurity and the importance of supplementing one’s degree with such certificate courses. He provided a brief overview of the course, which was developed by the multinational company Palo Alto and is delivered through St Philomena College official Palo Alto Cybersecurity Academy. The course spans four months and includes six days of direct classroom interaction.
Vinayachandra, dean of the Department of Computer Science delivered the introductory remarks about cybersecurity. Asst professors Chaitra N P welcomed, and Neelam Kuttappa compered the program. Abhishek Suvarna, assistant professor in the business administration department and coordinator from the ICT Academy, trainer Shiva Gopal, were present at the event. Asst professor Suraksha S provided support. One hundred students from the first BCA class, who have chosen cybersecurity as their elective, participated in the event.
