Udupi, May 20: "I have great respect for Raghupati Bhat, who has handled various responsibilities for nearly 30 years. While he may have had expectations, we are committed to the party’s decisions," said Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna.

Earlier, Raghupati Bhat had indirectly expressed his displeasure regarding Suvarna, who countered Bhat’s comments while maintaining respect for his senior colleague.

Suvarna emphasized his commitment to the party, stating, "I never aspired to become an MLA of Udupi but accepted the party’s nomination when it was announced. I won the Assembly election with the highest margin in Udupi's history. Raghupati Bhat contributed significantly to my campaign, just as I have supported him in the past."

Addressing Bhat’s concerns, Suvarna said, "Bhat might have spoken under pressure. He has experienced extensive power within the party, holding positions continuously for 20 years. In our party, the organization is more important than individuals, and the country is above the party."

Suvarna added, "I rely on my business for my income and do not need to depend on others for my political activities. During my tenure, I have not supported any illegal activities."

Regarding the possibility of reconciliation, Suvarna said, "Senior leaders might convince Raghupati Bhat to withdraw his nomination. I have no insatiable desire for continuous power. During my tenure, I aim to nurture new leaders."

Responding to Raghupati Bhat’s complaint about not being invited to government programs, Suvarna clarified, "I have not laid the foundation for any government projects as an MLA. The government protocol determines the invitations, which are extended only to elected representatives. I have always respected our seniors and have worked sincerely to support them, even during their personal difficulties. If Raghupati Bhat had approached me directly about the issues, I would have resolved them. The absence of photos at the MLA’s office is not a deliberate oversight but rather a matter of protocol."
