Instances of traffic rule violations surge in Udupi district

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi

Udupi, May 29: Despite the recent gang war incident in Kunjibettu, residents of Udupi district are gripped by fear, refraining from venturing out after dark.

Several instances of rule violations have surfaced in the district, including riding without helmets, using mobile phones while driving, triple riding on two-wheelers, driving in the wrong direction, and excessive honking. The police department needs to fortify its patrol system.

Public sentiment advocates for the implementation of stringent traffic regulations and the installation of CCTV systems in key areas, akin to neighbouring Dakshina Kannada district, to bolster public safety.

In rural areas, two-wheeler riders often flout helmet rules. Even those previously compliant have stopped due to sparse police presence. Urban areas like Kalsanka, Karavali Bypass, Adi Udupi, Brahmagiri, Kinnimulki, and Manipal witness heightened traffic violations.

Reckless driving is rampant on Udupi and Manipal national highways, with offenders using loud horns, modified silencers, and indulging in noisy driving. On the day of the gang war, reckless driving in Udupi-Manipal caused public inconvenience. Such incidents underscore the need for vigilant policing.

Udupi district's achievements in education and healthcare hinge on strict law enforcement. Concerns arise that if legal lapses drive away individuals migrating for education and employment, the district's progress across sectors may suffer. Hence, the public calls for prioritizing law enforcement by the police.
