Konkani Natak Sabha Mangaluru announces Konkani singing competition in Mumbai

Mumbai, May 29: Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) Mangaluru has announced its 60th edition of Konkani singing competition and second time in Mumbai as an added venue.

After a huge success and positive response from Konkani talents of various parts of Mumbai last year, the KNS has once again taken a step to organize a singing competition this year too in association with Konkan Association Charitable Trust (R), Mumbai. The competition will be held on Sunday June 30 at St Thomas Church Hall, near railway station, Goregaon East, Mumbai.

The competition will be held for children and elders separately. In the children's category, there will be only solo competition for the age group of 5 to 10 years. Children of age group 10 to 15 can participate in solo, duet and mix groups. The age group from 15 to 45 years old will be considered an elder’s category. There will be separate competitions for men and women as solo and duet. Above 15 years men and women can also participate in mixed group singing. There will be solo competition for men and women for the age category of 45 and above. There will be a duet round for married couples as well.

The KNS and Konkan Association Charitable Trust (R) Mumbai have requested the budding talents of Mumbai to participate in the singing competition in large numbers and to be a part of a historic moment.

About KNS’ Konkani singing competition

It was in 1963 that the Konkani Natak Sabha initiated a Konkani singing competition for adults and children. From then KNS has every year organised its singing competition at its Don Bosco Hall in Mangaluru. From last 3 years they have also organised the singing competition in Udupi and last year, the KNS organised its maiden singing competition at Mumbai. The KNS gets the credit of nurturing many popular singers of today. The KNS singing competition is still popular to this day attracting a large number of elders, youngsters and children.

Name any Konkani singer and invariably the name finds itself in the huge list of the participants during the inter parish competition organized by the KNS for 6 decades.

Having completed as many as 59 annual singing competitions this year the organizers are all set to mark the 60th year in a grand style. The splendid event will witness 2 levels of competition at Mumbai, Udupi and Mangaluru with a grand finale in the month of September at Don Bosco Hall.

History says the participants of the KNS singing competition will definitely be the well-known singers of tomorrow. The old list shows the tremendous leap undergone by the participants in the field of singing. Since 1963 the competition has been nurturing Konkani music and singing with many innovations.

The Konkani Natak Sabha, by pioneering inter parish singing competition from past 6 decades had encouraged and given a platform to many singers and composers like the late Wilfy Rebimbus, the late Mic Max, the late Victor Concessao, the late Claud D’Souza, Meena Rebimbus, Joyce Ozario, Carmelita Goveas, Melwyn Peris, Ivan Sequeira, Alex Madtha, Babitha Dsa, Rony D'Cunha, Apolinares D’Souza, Lancy Henry Moras, Alwyn Noronha, Patrick Pereira, Preema Rodrigues, Monica Valder, Gladys Lorena, Shilpa Cutinha, Babitha Pinto, Prakash Dsouza, Rony Crasta, Stan Mendonca, Maxim Pereira, Joseph Pinto, Dr Prashanth Raj, Robin Sequeira, Rathan Castelino and the list goes on and on.

Other than the singing competition, the KNS also organizes elocution competition, poetry recitation competition, dance competition, fancy dress, skit competition and Voviyo Verse competition. This year onwards for the first time, the KNS will organise Gumta Gayan competition.
