Udupi, May 30: The 57th annual day celebration of Milagres College, Kallianpur was held on Thursday, May 30 at Milagres Tri Centenary Hall, Kallianpur. Dr Thomas Pinto, dean, Srinivas University College of Engineering & Technology, Mukka, Mangaluru, was the chief guest. Akshath, theatre artiste and alumnus (2013-16) B Com batch of Milagres College was the guest of honour. Fr Valerian Mendonca, the correspondent of Milagres Educational Institutions and the rector of the Cathedral, presided over the programme.

Dr Vincent Alva, principal, Milagres College, Kallianpur, presented the informative and colorful Annual Report of the College events during the academic year. in a unique way which was adored by all. Dr Jayaram Shettigar, IQAC coordinator extended a warm and cordial welcome to all the guests and invitees on behalf of the college.

The College Choir group gave the prayerful start by invoking the Almighty Lord’s blessings. The event also witnessed the felicitations of student achievers in sports, academics and extracurricular activities. Faculty achievements were also recognized. Retired staff Professor Annamma, Department of Economics, was specially felicitated.

Dr Thomas Pinto was overwhelmed by the extraordinary achievements of the college. He quoted lines from Bhagavad Gita and said, “Mother and motherland are superior to heaven. Therefore patriotism and fostering brotherhood is very important. I appreciate the well maintained discipline and the idea of student council in the college. He further said “common people follow the footsteps of the great achievers. Similarly students follow the footsteps of the teachers who are their motivating spirit. Students should focus on doing good work. They have the right to work only and not for the fruits thereof.”

Akshath, an alumnus of the college began his speech by recollecting his college days. He said “I thank the college for providing a well disciplined education and the teachers for their whole hearted support which is my greatest motivation. I have not seen any occasion in any college where old students are honored for their achievements. It is only in our institution that I saw such a heartwarming event. I will always cherish all my beautiful memories in college.”

The president of the programme, Fr Valerian Mendonca began his speech by congratulating every student in maintaining dignity and decorum in discipline. He said, “He is very happy for the achievement of students, staff and alumni of the college, which makes Milagres an ocean full of talents. He further said, “His dream comes true as Milagres College secures A+ grade from NAAC in the fourth cycle. Educational institutions are meant for preparing the youth for a great future.” Concluding his speech by quoting Robert Frost, he said, “We have miles to go before sleep. May your light shine and make others happy.”

Dr Harinakshi MD, Karthik Nayak, director SWC, Shenroy Dias, president SWC, Ananya Bhat N, secretary SWC and others were present on the dais. Shenroy Dias proposed a vote of thanks and Vibha and Jackson D’Souza compered the programme.

The formal event was followed by a wonderful cultural extravaganza, showcasing various talents of the students.
