Mangaluru, May 31: Former minister B. Ramanath Rai said that the incident outside Kankanady mosque was unnecessary. “God is one. There was no need to file a suo motu case for a small issue like praying outside the mosque,” he said.
Speaking on the matter at the press conference held at the Congress office in the city, Rai said, “Many religious programs are held on public roads. We cannot keep saying that it is wrong. When provocative speeches were made and acts were done in Dakshina Kannada district, no suo motu case was filed. There was no need to make a big deal out of this trivial matter. Those who made the video of this incident and attempted to damage communal harmony should face legal action.”
Rai also appealed for votes to be cast for capable Congress candidates contesting for the southwest graduate and teachers’ constituency.
“Congress will understand the issues faced by the youth and respond accordingly. Congress assured the implementation of the old pension scheme in its manifesto. The same will be done. Despite having several schools, there are issues in Dakshina Kannada. The Congress government is taking steps to resolve fundamental infrastructure issues of government schools and issues related to teachers. Congress candidates who are trying to reintroduce the old pension scheme should be supported,” he said.
KPCC chief secretary Padmaraj R said that it is natural to file a suo motu case when illegal acts that damage communal harmony occur. But in this trivial matter, the police department should have called those concerned and spoken to them.
Leaders Ashraf K, Appi, Ibrahim Kodijal, Shubhodaya Alva, Shashikala, and Deepak Poojary were present.
