Beltangady, Jun 2: A bike rider was killed on the spot after being run over by a truck involved in national highway widening work at Halekote on June 1.
The accident was reportedly caused by the negligent and rash driving of the truck driver. The deceased, Vinod Gowda (45), an agriculturist and resident of Macchina village, succumbed to his injuries immediately. A complaint has been filed against the truck driver, Mohammed Razik (30).
The truck was carrying mud and hit the bike as it approached the Kasaba Halekote petrol pump. The rider and his bike fell under the truck's rear wheels. Despite being rushed to a government hospital, Vinod Gowda was declared dead on arrival.
Vinod Gowda is survived by his wife and two children. A case has been registered at the Beltangady traffic police station.
