Bantwal: Thunderstorms cause injuries, damage to properties

Bantwal, Jun 3: Heavy rain since 3 PM on Monday, June 3, has caused significant damage in many parts of the taluk. In Kodambettu village, three women were injured by lightning while cutting grass in a garden.

Anita Pujari (38), a resident of Subbottu, and sisters Leelavati (32) and Mohini (30), residents of Ramayya Guri, were among the seven women cutting grass when lightning struck. The three injured women were immediately taken to Bantwal Taluk Hospital with the help of a 108 Ambulance and were later admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru for further treatment. All three are reportedly recovering.

In another incident, Jai Lakshmi's arecanut and coconut tree plantation in Kulal, Irvattur village, was damaged by wind and rain. A coconut tree fell on the house of Premalatha, also in the same village, causing damage.

Additionally, the houses of Shobha and Appi, residents of Pangalpadi in Azzibettu village, Vamadapadau, were damaged by lightning. The electrical appliances, switches, and wiring in both houses were destroyed, resulting in significant losses. The tahsildar office has stated that urgent action has been taken by the Revenue Department.
