Mangalore, Oct 22: Major parts of both Sullia and Puttur taluks came under the spell of heavy rain coupled with strong wind, thunder, and lightning, on Friday October 21. Power supply and telephone connection were disrupted at many places as a result. Fallen trees caused power lines to severe, and traffic snarls occurred in a number of places. A tree which got uprooted on a house owned by B Rajaram near Uppinangady police station inflicted heavy losses.

Roads turned into slushy pools in Sullia, Subrahmanya, and other places. All the other taluks in Dakshina Kannada district went without any rain, although cloudy weather was experienced since late afternoon. Highway traffic was affected for some time after a tree fell across the road at Uppinangady Kootelu. Movement on Uppinangady-Guruvayanakere road was also disrupted after a tree got uprooted at Karaya.

In Karkala taluk, rain accompanied by thunder and lightning was experienced. Udupi and Kundapur taluks went without any rain on Friday. Four houses in Kallakatta Colony in Kasargod suffered damages due to lightning on Friday. Electric wiring and electronic equipments were damaged as a result. A girl named Nalini, daughter of Padmavati from the colony, was injured. Another houses owned by Damodar in Mardambail near Kasargod was also damaged due to lightning.

The meteorological department has predicted cloudy sky with the possibility of thundershowers in Karnataka coast on Saturday and Sunday. As per the prediction, some places in southern hinterland and a couple of places in northern hinterland may get rain during this period.
