Bengaluru, Jun 6: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Thursday confirmed that Scheduled Tribes Welfare Minister B Nagendra has ‘volunteered to resign to uphold the dignity of the Congress party and the government’ over the Rs 187 crore scam in the State Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation.
Speaking to reporters at the KPCC office, he said, "The Home Minister and I had a discussion with Nagendra. He is not involved in the scam and hence there is no need to resign. However, he has offered to resign to uphold the dignity of the party and the government. He may resign today."
Asked if the resignation would be accepted, he said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would take a decision after a discussion with the High Command.
Replying to a query on the Lok Sabha results, he said, "I am happy that the I.N.D.I.A block has a strong performance across the country. We have decided to stay away from forming the government in spite of coming so close to the majority.
“The people of the country have voted for a strong opposition. The results have given a new lease of life to democracy in the country. The future course of action will be decided by the AICC president,” he added.
