Udupi, Jun 6: In a significant electoral victory, S L Bhojegowda of the JD(S) emerged victorious in the Southwest Teachers' constituency. Bhojegowda secured his win in the first-preference vote count, achieving a substantial margin of 5,267 votes over his opponents.
The vote counting process, now complete, revealed a total of 19,479 votes cast, of which 821 were invalid. The valid votes counted stood at 18,658. To secure the seat, a candidate needed to obtain 9,330 votes.
Bhojegowda surpassed this requirement with 9,829 first-preference votes, clinching the win decisively. His main competitor, Congress candidate K K Manjunath, garnered 4,562 votes.
In the Southwest Graduates' constituency vote counting, Dhananjay Sarji of BJP secured 7,800 votes, Aayanur Manjunath of Congress secured 5,200 votes, and major independent candidate Raghupathi Bhat secured 4,000 votes in the first round of vote counting.
