Karkala: Court halts controversial electricity tower construction amidst Inna villagers' protests

Karkala, Jun 7: A Karkala court has issued a temporary stay on the construction of an electricity tower that had sparked severe protests from the villagers of Inna. The construction work, intended to supply electricity from Nandikoor in Elluru village to Kasargod, was brought to a halt on Thursday following the court's order.

Earlier in the week, the contracting company, under heavy police protection, had begun excavating large pits for the tower on Wednesday. This action prompted a significant outcry from local residents.

Last week, villagers staged a protest when the contractor attempted to bring JCB machinery onto private agricultural land in Ukkuda to commence the tower's construction. The project was subsequently paused due to the opposition. An elderly villager reported being pushed by the contractor’s personnel when he objected to the construction on his property.

They shouldn't do this on someone's private land, this is the one example how this government is ruling in the state.
