Mangaluru, Jun 10: The annual meeting of private and aided college principals affiliated with Mangalore University was convened at SDM College of Business Management, Mangaluru on June 6.
The chief guest, Professor P L Dharma, vice chancellor of Mangalore University, Mangalagangotri, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing significant transformations within higher education. He assured proactive measures from the university to address challenges encountered by institutions and students. Notably, he underscored the increased autonomy conferred upon universities by the SEP, urging academicians to capitalize on this opportunity to devise student-centric curricula.
Dr Francisca Tej, founder of Wizdom Institutions Network, Mangaluru, graced the event as the guest of honor, emphasizing the paramount importance of holistic student development in the educational sphere. She highlighted Wisdom Institute's role in providing career counseling services. Dr Vincent Alva, President of the association, articulated the challenges faced by colleges in his introductory remarks, urging the Vice Chancellor's intervention for resolution.
Professor P L Dharma was felicitated by the association in recognition of his contributions. Retired Principals, Dr N P Narayan Shetty, former principal of Bhandarkars’ College Kundapur and past president of the association, and Dr Satish Shetty, former principal of Besant Women’s College and past secretary of the association, were also honored.
During the business session, it was unanimously decided to retain Dr Vincent Alva as president, with Dr K Umesh Shetty and Dr Rudrakumar M M serving as vice presidents, and Prof Aruna P Kamath as secretary. Sudesh Poojari, principal of Sridevi College, was nominated as joint secretary, and Dr Premalatha Pai, principal of Canara College, assumed the role of treasurer, succeeding Dr Lakshminarayan Bhat, principal of Besant Women’s College, the outgoing treasurer.
The gathering was welcomed by Umesh Shetty, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Prof Aruna P Kamath. Dr Soumya Hegde compered the proceedings.
