Udupi: Talents of Special Children Come to Fore in ‘Namma Angadi’ Drawing Contest

Udupi, Oct 24: The efforts of special children at the drawing contest organized as part of ‘Namma Angadi’, a three-day exhibition cum sale, at the Board High School, drew immense appreciation from the public.

On Sunday October 23, a drawing competition on the theme ‘My Dream Village’ was organized for students below 10 years of age and for special school students. Students from different schools in Udupi, Kapu, Brahmavar, and Manipal took part in the competition.

“The ability of so called ‘disability’ is revealed as night reveals a shining star which was hidden during the day,” said a visitor to the exhibition upon seeing the painting done by a special child.

The results of the drawing competition are as follows:

Below 5 years: Adarsh Bhat (first), Mukund Kripa School, D S Vasudeva Tantry, Mukund Kripa School (second); between 5-10 Shrinidhi Shet (first), Mukunda Kripa School, Priyanka Shet (second), Mukunda Kripa School; special children: Blossom (first), Hombelaku, Malini (second), Hombelaku.

Namma Angadi was a unique exhibition organized by NGO ‘Namma Bhoomi’ to provide a platform for rural products and urbanize them through the exhibition. Products like cotton ‘kurtas’, artistic products, clay models, decorative items for Deepavali, and jute products were displayed at the exhibition. People from Udupi, Kundapur, Mangalore, and other parts of Dakshina Kannada visited this exhibition.
 
Various cultural events were held in the evening on all three days. Yakshagana on ‘Utharana Pourusha’ was performed by Udupi Kala Kendra on Friday October 21. On the second day of the event, vocal performance and a ‘Natya Rupaka’ “Gangavalla Bhakthi” was performed by Surathkal Mahila Vrinda.

 The exhibition provided a good platform for all the rural products, produced by the artisans of Namma Bhoomi and visitors provided positive feedback on the products as well as on Namma Angadi.
