Lucknow, Oct 25 (IANS): A gangster carrying a reward of Rs.50,000 for his capture was Tuesday gunned down by police in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district, police said.
Yogendra alias Kalu, 28, was shot dead during a gun battle with the police and the sleuths of the Special Operations Group in Naujheel town while his three aides managed to escape.
"Yogendra and his aides started firing indiscriminately at the police. We also retaliated and shot dead Yogendra while his accomplices ran away," Police Inspector Lekhraj Singh told reporters in Mathura, some 350 km from here.
Yogendra, who usually operated in western Uttar Pradesh, was wanted in around 12 cases, including murder, abduction and attacks on policemen, he said.
Two policemen were also injured during the gunfight.
A rifle and a pistol along with several cartridges were recovered from Yogendra's possession.
