Mangaluru, Jun 22: The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Mangaluru, held the 'KCCI Conclave - 2024' on Saturday, June 22, at T.M.A Pai International Convention Center, Mangaluru.

Dr Ajay Prabhu's Insights on Technology and Future Trends

Dr Ajay Prabhu, President of Technology Services at Quest Global, was the speaker at the event. He shared, "My parents hailed from Mangaluru, and it's great to be back here to share my thoughts. My firm, Quest Global, is into engineering sourcing. From manufacturing airplanes to mobiles, the work of engineers is essential. Today, even doctors are half engineers, and at Quest Global, we help these customers build things with our engineers. The story of this business started in Hubli with my brother and a friend. Later, my friend and I joined NITK, and after that, we both went to the US for further studies. The company rapidly grew, and in 2003, when Enron collapsed, we lost 50% of our business. It was a miracle that another firm was ready to invest in Quest."

He further added, "The world's population is rising, but it will not grow much further. In the next 75 years, the population will increase by just 40%, but the economy will continue to grow. In many countries, people do not want to do muscle work. In the next 75 years, the whole trend will completely change with the help of technology. People want to have fewer children, and societal changes are happening because of technology. Politics will also change, with basic facilities provided by the government for free. We should focus on making people smarter, and KCCI is working with the government to train people in technology."

"Once a niche is selected, many industries revolving around it will eventually develop. By 2100, India has the chance to be at the top of the world, and this is possible only if we adopt new technology. We should think about long-term plans in which we will excel. A businessman wants to do business in everything, but true value is understood when you build from nothing. Technology keeps changing, and there is no bad time to start learning about it. If there is something unique in Mangaluru, people will be forced to come to Mangaluru, and that should be our main motive," he said.

KCCI's vision and achievements

CA Ananthesh V Prabhu, president of KCCI, welcomed the gathering and said, "The founding fathers of KCCI laid the foundation in 1940 to strengthen the region. KCCI is actively involved in the making of Mangaluru special economic zones, Mangaluru airport, and the port. In the history of KCCI, under the presidentship of M Ganesh Nayak, the Chamber Building was refurbished."

He continued, "It is said that industries flourish when they support locals, and KCCI is fully committed to helping and promoting businesses. With the motto of 'Enhancing Brand Mangaluru,' KCCI has signed an MOU with Goa, and both parties have decided to work together. Officials from Canada and other countries have come to see mutual benefits, and the startup culture is booming in our region. Mangaluru is all set to be the next IT hub and transform India on a global level."
