Media Release

Dubai, Jun 24: In a vibrant display of community spirit, Sasthan parishioners residing in the United Arab Emirates recently came together for a momentous occasion that would mark the beginning of a new chapter in their collective journey. The event, meticulously organized to welcome their esteemed parish priest, Fr Sunil D'Silva, blossomed into a celebration of unity and purpose.

On June 23 at Dubai, the warm ambiance of Winnys Restaurant in Karama set the stage for what would become a landmark gathering. Christopher Fernandes, the visionary behind the event, orchestrated an affair that seamlessly blended fellowship with forward-thinking initiatives.

As the clock struck the appointed hour, 75 parishioners filed into the venue, their faces alight with anticipation. The air buzzed with excited chatter as old friends reconnected and new acquaintances were forged. Riya Lewis, assuming the role of Master of Ceremony with grace and poise, took to the podium to commence the proceedings.

In a touching gesture that set the tone for the evening, Steven Picardo presented Fr Sunil with a resplendent bouquet flowers and thoughtful gifts, symbolizing the community's warm welcome and deep respect for their spiritual leader. Fr Sunil, visibly moved by the gesture, expressed his gratitude and shared his vision for the community's future.

It was during this address that Fr Sunil proposed an idea that would reshape the landscape of the Sasthan community in the UAE. He spoke passionately about the formation of a group, a collective body that would serve as a beacon of support and unity for all parishioners. The suggestion fell on eager ears, with attendees nodding in enthusiastic agreement.

Seizing upon this momentum, Sharmila Lewis stepped forward to lead a spirited discussion on the practicalities of forming such a group. Ideas flowed freely as participants shared their thoughts on the potential structure and objectives of the group. As the conversation progressed, a consensus emerged, and with it, the birth of "Ami Sasthanghar " was heralded.

With the foundation laid, attention turned to the selection of office bearers who would guide this fledgling organization through its crucial first year. After careful deliberation, a diverse and capable team was chosen to lead "Ami Sasthanghar " for the 2024-25 term:

Christopher Fernandes, the driving force behind the evening's gathering, was unanimously elected as President. Ranjitha Lewis stepped into the role of Vice President, bringing her unique perspective to the leadership team. The articulate Riya Lewis, who had so ably managed the event, was the natural choice for Secretary. Zeena Pinto, known for her financial acumen, took on the responsibility of Treasurer. Frew Menezes, with his talent for organization, was appointed Event Coordinator.

Recognizing the need for experienced guidance, a council of advisors was also established, comprising Terence Lewis, Stephen Rodrigues, Prashanth Lewis, and Chester Dsouza. Their collective wisdom would prove invaluable in steering the association through its formative stages.

With the formal proceedings concluded, the gathering shifted gears to celebrate their newfound unity. A series of engaging games, thoughtfully prepared by the organizers, filled the room with laughter and friendly competition. Participants, young and old alike, threw themselves into the activities with gusto, further strengthening the bonds of community.

As the aroma of a sumptuous lunch buffet wafted through the air, conversations flowed freely. Parishioners shared stories of their lives in the UAE, exchanged news from home, and discussed their hopes for the newly formed association. The meal was a feast not just for the palate but for the spirit of camaraderie that it fostered.

Following the repast, attendees gathered for a commemorative photo session, capturing the joy and optimism of the day for posterity. The event then transitioned into a more intimate phase, with community members taking turns to share personal experiences with Fr Sunil. These heartfelt exchanges underscored the deep connection between the parish priest and his flock, even across geographical distances.

As the successful event drew to a close, a vote of thanks was offered, acknowledging the hard work of key organizers Praveen Saldanha, Zeena Pinto, and Chester Dsouza, whose behind-the-scenes efforts had ensured the seamless execution of the gathering. The distribution of prizes for the games added a final touch of excitement to the proceedings.

Departing with high spirits and a renewed sense of purpose, the Sasthan community in the Emirates looked to the future with optimism. The formation of "Ami Sasthanghar" promised not just a means of preserving their cultural heritage but also a platform for mutual support and growth in their adopted home.

As the last farewells were exchanged, there was a palpable sense that this was not an ending, but a beginning. The success of the event had set a high bar for future gatherings, and already, minds were turning to the possibilities that lay ahead. With a strong leadership team in place and a community united in purpose, "Ami Sasthanghar" stands poised to make a lasting impact on the lives of Sasthan parishioners in the United Arab Emirates.
