Udupi: Garuda gang war accused attempt assault on prison officials

Udupi, Jun 26: Two accused in the Garuda gang war case attempted to assault jail officials and staff at Hiriyadka district prison in here in the taluk.

The accused, Muhammad Ashiq and Muhammad Sakleen, were arrested recently in Udupi city during a police raid targeting the Garuda gang. They were reportedly frustrated due to a delay in making a call through the call system and responded violently.

The inmates resorted to abusive language towards jailor S A Shirole and escalated the situation by attempting to assault district jail superintendent Siddharam B Patil and other prison staff. According to reports, they pushed the officials and tried to attack them using a chair from their cell. They also allegedly attempted to use a tea kettle from the kitchen to inflict harm.

Following the altercation, a formal complaint has been lodged at the Hiriyadka police station.
