Chandigarh, Oct 27 (IANS): Controversial sect leader Baba Piara Singh Bhaniarewala was Thursday injured after two unidentified men attacked him with sharp-edged weapons in Punjab's Ropar district, police said.
The injured sect leader was rushed to a hospital in Nurpur Bedi town of the district, 65 km from here, by his security and followers after the attack, an official said.
"The identity of the attackers is not yet known. We have launched a manhunt in the area," the police official in Ropar district headquarter said.
The sect leader, who heads the Bhaniarewala sect, has been the target of hardline Sikh activists owing to his controversial activities. He lives at his campus in village Dhamana in the district and has been on target of terrorists for anti-Sikh preachings.
