Mangaluru: Orientation programme for first PU students of Yenepoya PU College held

Mangaluru, Jun 29: The orientation programme for the first PU students of Yenepoya PU College was held on June 22 at Yendurance Zone, Yenepoya University campus, Deralakatte. The event aimed to welcome the new students, introduce them to the faculty and academic activities and provide essential guidelines for their journey ahead. The programme was attended by the students and parents. The Master of Ceremony was Nishma Almieda, department of biology.

The programme commenced with a solemn prayer led by II nd PU students. The prayer set a serene and respectful tone for the event.

Following the prayer, the welcome address was delivered by Kristen, department of physics. He warmly welcomed the dignitaries, Mishria Javeed director of academics and operations, associate director Anthony Joseph, academic advisor  Sinan Zakariya, principal Uzwal Menezes, deans of science and commerce Purushottam and Melwin Felix, the student welfare officers of science and commerce Valentine Crasta and Stany Lobo, faculty members and non-teaching staffs. The new students and parents were warmly welcomed, highlighting the institutions commitment to fostering a nurturing and supportive educational environment.

The introduction of the faculty members was conducted by the principal Uzwal Menezes. Each faculty member was introduced with a brief overview of their academic background, areas of expertise and the subjects they would be teaching.

The keynote address was delivered by Sinan Zakariya. The address focused on the theme of embracing academic and personal growth and provided valuable insights on how to balance academics with personal development. He shared his experience and advice on setting goals time management, and the importance of maintaining a positive mindset.

The introduction of the academic activities of science was introduced by Seema Umesh, department of mathematics. Melwin Felix, dean of commerce introduced the Academic activities of the commerce stream. The presentation included information on the curriculum, examination schedules and competitive examinations.

A highlight of the programme was the felicitation of the achievers of board exams and NEET and JEE toppers from present and previous academic years. The dignitaries felicitated the achievers with certificates, trophies and shawl. The NEET toppers were presented with Stethoscopes and JEE toppers with books as a token of appreciation and pride.

Shruthi, department of biology read out the names of the toppers. The board toppers of science - Abid Ali (state 8th rank holder), Ayshath Bushra, Sifana were felicitated. The commerce toppers were Ananya Prasad and Deepali. The JEE topper, Khan Hyder Abdul Kareem shared his experience with the audience. The NEET toppers of 2024 who received the felicitation were Tanvi Bangera, Mariyam Zayeem and Kadeeja .The NEET toppers of batch 2022 - Vishruth, and Anushu Mariam and NEET toppers of batch 2020 - Sheha Fathima, Shabiba Shifa Bee Fathima, Maisha Mariyam and Abbas Ayaz were the other achievers who received the felicitation.

The associate director in his address to the young minds appreciated the accomplishments of the achievers and inspired the students with his thought-provoking words.

The general guidelines session was conducted by the student welfare officer of commerce. He provided essential information on the college rules and regulations, attendance policies, code of conduct and safety measures. Students were reminded of the importance of adhering to these guidelines to ensure a smooth and productive academic experience.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Anusha Prabhu, department of chemistry. She expressed gratitude to the management, principal, faculty, parents and students for their participation and support. Special thanks were extended to the programme committee for their efforts in making the event a success. The orientation programme was a resounding success, leaving the students feeling welcomed and motivated to begin their journey in Yenepoya PU college. The event concluded with the singing of the national anthem, fostering a sense of unity among the attendees.
