Mangaluru: Road collapse near Porkodi temple disrupts traffic

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jul 5: Heavy vehicle movement on the Bajpe-Porkodi road was disrupted due to a road collapse near the Porkodi Sri Somanatheshwara Temple on Wednesday night, which created a large crater.

The collapse occurred after the storm water drain became obstructed, causing water to flow over it and erode the soil. Locals had previously warned the Public Works Department (PWD) about the potential danger of the drain.

On Thursday, only light vehicles could pass through the affected stretch, while trucks and buses were redirected via alternative routes through Kaluvaru and Jokatte. Some vehicles also detoured via Karambaru, Tarabari, and Porkodi.

Officials from the Bajpe town panchayat quickly responded by conducting temporary repairs, filling the crater with mud. Traffic flow returned to normal by the afternoon.
