Udupi, Jul 7: Udupi District Commissioner Vidya Kumari has urged construction companies to prioritize the safety of labourers working on construction sites.

In a statement, Vidya Kumari said, “All building construction companies are responsible for the safety of labourers working at their sites. Proper precautions must be taken, especially during the monsoon season.

“All precautionary measures should be taken to prevent any landslides, accidents, or other mishaps. No life should be lost due to negligence. If precautions cannot be ensured, such work should be halted immediately.”

A communique from the district labour officer added, “If a labourer’s life is lost during construction work, action will be taken against the contractor as per building laws. Violations can result in three months imprisonment or a fine imposed by the court. Builders and contractors must ensure the safety of labourers at construction sites.”
