Mangaluru, Jul 9: Members of the notorious inter-state "Chaddi Gang" were captured in a joint operation by Mangaluru, Hassan and Sakleshpur police, thanks to the precise information provided by KSRTC Mangaluru's 3rd division staff and private drivers. The gang was nabbed in in Sakleshpur.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Raju Singhania, aged 24, Mayur, aged 30, Bali, aged 22, and Vikky, aged 21, all from Madhya Pradesh.
In the early hours of July 9, 2024, the "Chaddi Gang" committed a robbery and assault at a house on Kotekani Road, Derebailu village, belonging to elderly couple Victor Mendonca and Patricia Mendonca in Mangaluru. They fled the scene in the victims' car after taking away gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 12 lacs, a Samsung mobile phone and 10 branded watches worth Rs 1 lac and cash of Rs 3000 and later boarded a KSRTC bus heading towards Mulky. CCTV footage showed that the accused traveled to Mangaluru.
Upon receiving this information, police approached KSRTC Mangaluru's 3rd division. They showed the video footage to a driver who recognized the bus from the footage and identified it as belonging to their division. The driver/conductor confirmed that four unknown individuals had boarded their bus at the Mulky bus stand and later alighted in Mangaluru. They subsequently traveled on the 5:30 AM Mangaluru-Bangalore KSRTC bus of the same division.
Using the information provided by KSRTC staff and private drivers, police traced the robbers to Sakleshpur. With the help of Hassan police and Sakleshpur police, they successfully apprehended the gang members.
The gold, cash, and watches stolen from Mangaluru were confiscated from the accused and handed over to the Urwa police.
The police traced the accused within 5 hours of the theft at Kotekani.

The arrest was made under the guidance of Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal, DCP Siddarth Goyal, BP Dinesh Kumar, ACP Prathap Singh Thorat, Urwa Police Inspector Bharathi, Urwa Police SI Harish HV, Anitha HB, ASI Vinay Kumar, Venugopal, and Constables Pushparaj, Pramod, Narayan, Sathish, Peter, Ramachandra, Venkatesh, Abhishek, and Prajwal.
Additionally, Hassan SP Mohammed Sujeetha, Additional SP Thammayya, Sakleshpur Division DYSP Pramod B, Sakleshpur City PSI Pramod KS, Rural Station PSI Sadashiv Thippareddy, and Constables Khader Ali, Sunil, Jagadish, and Yogesh played crucial roles.
Mulky Station PSI Vinayak Bhavikatte and Constables Harishekar, Kishore Kotian, Chandrashekar, and Shashidhar also contributed significantly to the successful operation.
