Udupi, Jul 11: Under the leadership of Ramesh Kanchan, president of the Udupi Block Congress, the Udupi District Congress has lodged a formal complaint against MLA Dr Bharath Shetty.

The complaint was filed with Arun K, SP, and Puneet, DCP, urging stringent action against Dr Bharat Shetty for his inflammatory remarks made during a recent protest.

Ramesh Kanchan expressed strong disapproval of Bharath Shetty's conduct, stating, "As an MLA, it is unacceptable to make derogatory statements, especially about opposition leaders like Rahul Gandhi. Elected representatives should uphold the highest standards of conduct and refrain from inciting public sentiments. Dr Bharath Shetty's comment about slapping Rahul Gandhi is condemnable. When Rahul Gandhi shed light on BJP’s activities, they couldn't tolerate it and protested against it. We have filed a complaint seeking action to set an example for other MLAs."

Jyothi Hebbar added, "MLAs in the coastal region have often been accused of creating communal disturbances. Bharath Shetty's statement about slapping Rahul Gandhi and his mention of possessing weapons are unconstitutional. We have observed incidents originating in Mangaluru spreading to Udupi and Uttara Kannada. Therefore, we are opposing this behavior from the outset. As elected representatives, they have responsibilities to fulfill."

The complaint specifically demands strict legal action against Dr Bharath Shetty and Vedavyas Kamath, MLA, who allegedly supported the provocative agitation, under criminal law.

Congress leaders Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje, Ganesh Nergi, Suresh Shetty Bannanje, Surendra Acharya, Ananth Naik, Krishna Hebbar, Sharath Shetty, Sukanya Poojary, Satish Kodavuru, Satish Kumar Manchi, Sairaj Kidiyoor, and Sanjay Acharya were also present during the filing of the complaint.
