Mangaluru, Jul 12: Kankanady Police arrested two persons within 16 hours of a grocery shop theft case reported at Pumpwell on the night of July 8.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammed Nazir Howsil, aged 27, and Iliyas Khan, aged 22, both from Uttar Pradesh.
The case was taken up on July 9 under the guidance of Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal, DCP, and ACP South Division, with the investigation team led by Inspector T D Nagraj. The investigating team interrogated auto drivers and locals, discovering that two Hindi-speaking youths had traveled towards the railway station.
Upon checking CCTV footage, it was found that they had traveled on the Ernakulam-Pune Express. According to information provided by the railway authorities, the train had passed through Satara, Maharashtra.
The police commissioner then contacted GRP Pune, who were able to apprehend the accused in Pune. All the stolen property, including cash amounting to Rs 10 lac, was recovered intact.
The accused were produced in court and have been remanded to three days of police custody.
