Mangaluru: Konaje police arrest inter-state thieves, seize property worth Rs 12.5 lac

Mangaluru, Jul 12: The Konaje police of Mangaluru city have successfully arrested a group of inter-state thieves involved in stealing from locked houses. The police have seized property worth Rs 12,50,000 in total.

Over the last 2-3 months, there have been three reported cases of theft from locked houses in the Konaje police station area. The thieves broke the locks of these houses and stole property worth a total of Rs 9,25,000.

On July 10, PSI Vinod and his staff, while conducting an inspection at Mudungarkatte near the checkpoint in the morning, stopped a car carrying three individuals. Upon inspection, they seized two daggers, three dummy pistols, monkey caps, gloves, handguns, and tools used for breaking into houses. The occupants of the vehicle, identified as Mohammed Siyab alias Siya of Manjeshwar, Mohammed Arpaz alias Arpa of Bajpe, and Safwan alias Sappa, were arrested and registered under Konaje police station Cr No: 88/2024 u/s 312, 313 with 3(5) BNS2023.

The arrested individuals were interrogated at Konaje police station, where they confessed to the crimes registered under Cr.No: 67/2024 u/s 454, 380 IPC, Cr.No: 75/2024 u/s 454, 380 IPC, and Cr No: 82/2024 w/s 457, 380 IPC. A total of Rs 12,50,000 worth of assets, including 130 grams of gold jewelry, a watch, and a car, were seized from them.

The accused, along with Kerala native Ashraf Ali (arrested in Kumble Police Station, Kerala) and his accomplices, have a history of stealing and robbing houses day and night using hired cars. Based on the information provided by Mohammed Siyab, Mohammad Jamsheera, a resident of Sajipa, has been detained and is being interrogated.

Mohammad Siyab (30): Known as a habitual offender in Konaje police station with about 13 cases registered against him, including four cases of robbery and house theft in Konaje, two cases of attempted murder and drug sales in Ullal police station, two house theft cases in Bajpe police station, one honeytrap case in Kadaba police station, three house theft cases in Kumble police station, and one house theft case in Manjeshwar police station.

Mohammad Arpaz (19): Has one case of house theft in Bajpe police station, one case of house theft in Manjeshwar police station, and one case of robbery in Hassan rural police station, totaling three cases.

Safwan (20): Has one house theft case registered against him in Kadaba police station.

Mohammad Jamsheer (27): Is involved for the first time.

There is information that the accused have committed house theft and robbery in Mangaluru city and the districts of DK, Udupi, Hassan, and Kasargod in Kerala. Further interrogation is ongoing.

The investigation was conducted under the guidance of Anupam Agrawal, IPS, commissioner of police, Mangaluru city, DCP law & order, Siddhartha Goyal, IPS, and DCP crime & traffic, Dinesh Kumar. The operation was led by Dhanya N Nayaka, ACP of Mangaluru city south division, and the property was recovered by Ravindra C M, police inspector of Konaje police station. PSI Vinod, ASIs Jagannath Shetty and Sanjeev, staff HC Rama Naik, WHC Reshma, and crime staff David D'Souza, Santosh K C, Basavanagowda, Suresh Talwara, Darshan, and Prashanth were present during the operation.

    Don't understand why the faces of thieves are not revealed. At least people will have the face recognized. Last week Chaddi gang today, lungi gang. The police team were rewarded for cracking the Chaddi gang case. Since the police team is huge the reward amount should also be higher for this catch.
