Embracing health & hygiene session held at Carmel School Moodbidiri for grade VII to X

Moodbidri , Jul 12: Carmel School Moodbidri took a significant step towards promoting wellness by organising a category-wise session on health and hygiene for students of grades VII to X on July 10. The enlightening event commenced with a soulful prayer song setting a serene and reflective tone for gathering.

The girls' session was graced by the presence of Prof Punarva S Kini, associate professor at Alvas College of Medical, Moodbidri, who was warmly welcomed by Sr Preena C A, the vice-principal with a flower pot. The session covered critical areas such as personal hygiene and the menstrual cycle along with the effects of junk and fatty foods. Through effective examples Punarva S Kini provided valuable insights into the science behind menstruation and dispelled common myths surrounding it. The discussion aimed to empower the students with knowledge and promote a healthy lifestyle.

In parallel, a session for boys was conducted by Dr Herald Roshan Pinto, principal at Alvas Homeopathic Medical College Moodbidri who was greeted by Sr Maria Gracilda A C, the principal also with a flower pot. Dr Pinto addressed several important topics:

Puberty: He emphasised that puberty is a normal phase of life and encouraged boys to be open about their curiosity regarding women's health.

Physical Changes: He explained the role of growth hormones in increasing height and the impact of testosterone on aggressiveness.

Holistic Health: Dr. Pinto stressed that health is not just physical but also encompasses mental and social well-being.

Personal Hygiene:Understanding the importance of maintaining cleanliness to prevent infections and promote overall health.

Dietary Habits: Highlighting the negative impacts of junk and fatty foods on health.

Puberty Education: Normalising the changes during puberty and promoting a healthy understanding of both male and female .

The students and the staff were grateful to the Management and Sr Maria Gracilda A C, the principal for organising this session. The session was a resounding success providing students with crucial knowledge and promoting a culture of wellness.
