Bantwal, Jul 13: In a heart-breaking incident, a person suffering from dengue fever succumbed to the illness without responding to tyhe treatment at a hospital in Mangaluru.

The deceased, Yatheesh (52), originally from Shambhoor village in Bantwal taluk, was currently residing in Puttur. Yatheesh, who primarily resided in Shambhoor, had recently moved with his family to Kabaka in Puttur. He worked as a staff member at Bharat Beedi Company's branch in B C Road. Yatheesh was admitted to Bantwal hospital after being diagnosed with severe dengue fever and critically low platelet counts. Despite being transferred to Derlakatte hospital on the same day for advanced treatment, medical efforts were unsuccessful, resulting in his demise.

Known for his exemplary character, Yatheesh had deep roots in Shambhoor village and leaves behind a mourning wife and two daughters, along with numerous friends.

While dengue fever cases have been on the rise in the district, Yatheesh's death marks the first fatality attributed to the disease. Concerns have been raised regarding underreporting of dengue-related deaths to the health department, despite several such incidents occurring in private hospitals across the district.

Despite a surge in dengue cases state-wide, until now, no fatalities had been reported due to dengue in Dakshina Kannada (DK) district. However, Yatheesh's unfortunate death due to dengue has been recorded as the district's first casualty related to the disease. Allegations have emerged questioning the accuracy of reporting to the department, as private hospitals allegedly fail to provide precise statistics on dengue-related fatalities.

We claim to be competing as best country in the world ( by politicians and accepted by their subordinates without second thought) and still cannot prevent diseases like Dengue and malaria. Charity should start from home not by going overseas.
