Holistic wellness: Nutrition, hygiene session at Carmel School Moodbidri held for grade I to VI

Moodbidri, Jul 14: A highly informative and engaging Health and Hygiene session was conducted for students from grades I to VI at Carmel school on July 12. The program was held in two separate sessions to accommodate the different age groups: grades I to III and grades IV to VI.

The session began with a beautiful prayer song, setting a serene and focused tone for the day. Prof Punarva S Kini, associate professor, Department of Pediatrics at Alva's College of Nursing, Moodbidri, was the resource person. Prof Kini was warmly welcomed with a potted sapling by Sr Ranitha, coordinator.

Prof. Kini covered a range of crucial topics vital for the well-being of the students. She spoke on:

1. **Healthy Living and Nutrition:** Emphasizing the importance of a balanced diet and regular exercise for overall health.

2. **Hand Hygiene:** Demonstrating proper hand washing techniques to prevent the spread of germs and illnesses.

3. **Sleep Disorders in Kids:** Highlighting common sleep issues and providing tips for ensuring a good night's sleep.

4. **Side-effects of Electronic Gadgets:** Discussing the negative impacts of excessive screen time on physical and mental health.

5. **Oral Health Tips:** Offering practical advice on maintaining good oral hygiene and preventing dental problems.

Prof Punarva Kini also provided valuable tips on effective time management. She encouraged students to balance their time between reading, playing, and spending quality moments with family, thereby fostering a well-rounded lifestyle.

The session was enriched with a PowerPoint presentation that visually reinforced the discussed points. Additionally, an impactful video presentation on the concepts of good touch and bad touch was shown, ensuring that students understand personal safety and protection. The session concluded with an inspirational video that imparted important lessons on how to stay protected in dangerous situations.

Sr Maria Gracilda A C, principal, was present. The staff and students immensely benefited from the insights and practical advice provided by Punarva Kini.
