Mangaluru, Jul 15: Thieves broke into a house near Bejai New Road through the rear door on Saturday night.
There were no occupants in the house when the theft occurred. The thieves made off with a speaker and Rs 5000 in cash.
Elderly couple Sheena Devadiga (85) and Kasturi (78) live in the house. As Sheena Devadiga is down with dengue fever, the couple had gone to their son’s house in Ashokanagar on June 28. On June 30, Kasturi returned to the Bejai home and took all the golden ornaments with her.
On Sunday morning, when Kasturi went to her house in Bejai to clean it, she found that someone had broken in through the rear door. Urwa police have registered a case and are investigating further.
Police officials noted that most residents in the twin districts secure the front door of their houses but often neglect the back door, making it an easy target for thieves.
Police also mentioned that the theft at the Bejai New Road house does not match the pattern of the Chaddi Gang. Nevertheless, the investigation is being conducted from all angles.
