Media Release

Udupi, Jul 15: Due to heavy rain, the wall of Government higher primary school, Doddanagudde collapsed on July 15.

The wall of the kitchen got soaked due rain water and part of it collapsed. Fortunately students escaped the disaster. As a result of the wall collapse, kitchen utensils, gas cylinders, and more than 40 steel plates used for student’s meals have been buried under mud.

During 1990, an Anganwadi was constructed under a loan scheme. Later when a new building in the same premise was being constructed, a portion of the Anganwadi was allocated for kitchen use. A portion of the Anganwadi wall collapsed, and the kitchen has been shifted to the school hall, nearby. The ceilings of some rooms of the school are leaking.

Nirmala, headmistress of the school, said, “If the incident had taken place during the time when teachers, cooks and helpers were walking around, it would have been a great disaster. Fortunately everyone escaped the danger”.

Geetha, senior staff, said, “In recent times we have formed an alumni association and some outline have been made related to the development of the school. The Education Department should compensate for the loss and repair the building.”
