Sullia, Jul 22: The state government has released an additional Rs 9 lac for the medical treatment of Chandni G D (33), a native of Navoor village in Sullia, who is suffering from a rare disease called Hyper IGE Syndrome.

More than Rs 34 lakh has already been spent on Chandni's medical treatment at AIG Hospital in Hyderabad. An initial grant of Rs 4 lac was released from the CM Relief Fund. However, when the remaining amount was not released, the hospital authorities refused to continue the treatment. In desperation, Chandni wrote a letter to chief minister Siddaramaiah, requesting mercy death if the grant could not be provided.

Health minister Dinesh Gundu Rao recently emailed higher government officials regarding the matter. In response, the CM's secretariat instructed the scheduled tribe welfare department to provide funds for Chandni's treatment, as she belongs to a scheduled tribe community. Subsequently, the scheduled tribe welfare department released Rs 9 lac, according to sources close to Chandni.
