Mumbai, Nov 3: A new Organization with the name ‘Reach’ was inaugurated at Green Meadows, Sheetal Nagar, Mira Road here on Wednesday November 2.

The punch line of the organisation is ‘Konkan Porvozanchen Daiz’ and their motto is to safeguard Konkani language and culture. The special target of the organization is to review the marriage culture and to sing vovyos during weddings and roce programmes of Konkani people.

Inaugurating the association Fr Dominic Vas, the parish priest of Mira Road Church said, "It was a glorious moment to witness our wedding ceremonies in the past. There was beauty and happiness in marriage ceremonies. Prime importance was given for the family life. But in today’s busy life the marriage culture is getting wiped out. The organization ‘Reach’ has taken right step to preserve these cultures”, he lauded.

The programme started in a traditional manner by offering pan-podd-udok to the guests. Fr Dominic, Lawrence Castelino, Harryboy, Molly Lobo and Ligory Lobo inaugurated the programme. Fr Dominic and other guests inaugurated the organization by unveiling the curtain on the association banner.

Entertainment programme was held with the singing of Vovyos and other Konkani songs.

President Austin Menezes, vice-presidents Merlyn D'Sa and Helen DSouza, secretary Jonita Kutto, joint secretary Michael Fernandes, treasurer Francis DSouza, joint treasurer Ronnie D’Souza, Gurkar Meena D’Souza and the committee members Hilda Serrao, Clara D’Souza, Veera D’Souza, Dulcine Corda, Jacinta D'Silva and Severine Pinto were present on the occasion. You say that the motto of REACH is to safeguard konkakani culture and traditions.Well good idea. But where are the youngsters in this opening ceremony.I can only see mostly senior citizens. If you have to attain the goal you should have encouraged and brought yougsters for this opening ceremony and should have made them to realise the need for the same.
Why our konkani is diminishing is because we only talk big things in the functions or shows on stage, and practically we do nothing at home.
