Udupi, July 23: The protest led by the Koraga Abhivruddhi Sanghagala Okkuta entered its second day on Tuesday, July 23, at the DC office in Manipal, with members of the Koraga community persisting in their demands for promised employment opportunities and issuance of agricultural land title deeds.

Former MLA K Ragupathi Bhat visited the protest site to express his support. Addressing the gathering, he stated, "I have questioned how long they are prepared to protest against this unresponsive government and ineffective representatives. They assured me of their determination for a prolonged struggle for justice. I stand in solidarity with their cause."

Bhat highlighted the challenges faced by the Koraga community despite their classification under Scheduled Tribes (ST), noting, "Despite an increase in reservation from 3% to 7% in the previous government, the Koraga community has not received the intended benefits."

Sushila Nada, president of Koraga Abhivruddhi Sanghagala Okkoota Karnataka-Kerala, emphasised the community's resolve. "This protest will continue until our demands are met. Our youth have pursued education against all odds, yet suitable employment opportunities matching their qualifications are not being provided by the government," she lamented.

Nada also highlighted the health issues faced by community members forced into menial jobs. "Our appeals have gone unheard. Today we are staging a do-or-die protest," she added.

Pavithra, vice-president, and Divakar, treasurer, along with other community members, were also present during the protest.
