Beltangady, Jul 30: Incessant rains have been lashing the taluk since Monday night. The Netravati and Mrityunjaya rivers are overflowing, and traffic has been affected due to a fallen tree on Charmadi Ghat.
The public has expressed frustration over the failure to cut trees before the onset of the monsoon. Low-lying areas are flooded, and water has entered farmlands near the riverbanks. Rural government schools have self-declared holidays to avoid any mishap.
The front portion of Pajiradka Sri Sadashiveshwara Temple near Dharmasthala is flooded due to the rising water levels of the Netravati and Mrityunjaya rivers.
As a precaution, tahsildar Prithvi Sanickam declared holidays for primary and high schools in the taluk on Tuesday, July 30.
Although the rains started on Monday night, the tahsildar's order was issued only on Tuesday morning, causing inconvenience to many teachers and students who were already on their way to school.
