Mangaluru: Srinivas University Institute of Management & Commerce organises seminar on 'Press Day'

Mangaluru, Jul 30: Srinivas University Institute of Management and Commerce, The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication in association with the Government of Karnataka's department of Information and Public Relations, organised a 'Press Day' seminar at the Srinivas University City Campus in Pandeshwara on July 30.

President of the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy Mangaluru, Taranath Gatti Kapikadu, inaugurated the programme. He emphasised the importance of journalists treating everyone equally and shared the history of print journalism in Mangaluru.

Chancellor of Srinivas University, Dr CA A Raghavendra Rao, presided over the programme. He stressed the importance of journalists rechecking news before publishing, standing with the truth, and using their influence to correct societal mistakes, highlighting the power of the pen.

The pro-chancellor of Srinivas University, Dr A Srinivas Rao, spoke about the importance of students reading newspapers daily. He suggested that newspapers should include a page for kids to cultivate an interest in reading among children and noted that newspapers serve as written records of events.

Dr Udayakumar M A, the former principal of University College Mangaluru, participated as a resource person. He emphasised the need for humanity and focused on societal problems, encouraging journalism students to understand every field and serve society. He observed that while journalists show societal problems through media and seek solutions, they face challenges and lack certain facilities in their own lives.

Srinivas Nayak, president of the Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists Association, extended his wishes for the programme. Dr Ajay Kumar, Srinivas University Development Registrar; Prof Sushmitha, head of the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication were present.

Institute of Management and Commerce dean, Dr Venkatesh Amin welcomed the gathering, and B A Khader Shah, senior assistant director of the Department of Information and Public Relations, Dakshina Kannada district, delivered the vote of thanks. Prof Prajna Odilnala served as the programme's emcee.
