Annual Konkans Ireland get-together 2024: A day of fun, food, fellowship

Dublin, Jul 31: The Konkani-speaking community of Ireland, Konkans Ireland, gathered for their much-anticipated annual get-together on the July 27 at the scenic Phoenix Park in Dublin. This event has become a cornerstone for the community, offering a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to come together, celebrate their culture, and enjoy a day of fun-filled activities.

The weather was perfect for an outdoor gathering, with clear skies and a gentle breeze providing a pleasant backdrop for the day’s events. Phoenix Park, known for its expansive green spaces and historic significance, proved to be an ideal venue for the picnic. Attendees started arriving early in the morning, bringing with them a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation.

The picnic commenced with a warm welcome from the organisers, who expressed their gratitude to all attendees for making the event possible. The day was packed with a variety of activities designed to entertain all age groups. Children enjoyed games like Cherry on the Spoon, Jumping on the 3 lines, Ring the Pole etc. Adults participated in friendly matches of Lava Walk, Jumping on the 3 lines, Ring the people holding Rope fostering a spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition.

No Konkani gathering is complete without a feast of traditional cuisine, and the picnic did not disappoint. The meet started off with chilled cold drinks with Meat Puffs & fruits and later lunch featured an array of delicious dishes, from fragrant biryani to Chicken Tandoori with Green Chutney & Raita. The shared meal was a testament to the community’s culinary heritage and the joy of sharing food with loved ones which was concluded with Tug of War and a Group Picture.

Throughout the day, the sense of community spirit was evident. Old friends reconnected, new friendships were formed, and everyone enjoyed the rare opportunity to relax and socialise in such a beautiful setting. The picnic also provided a platform for community leaders to discuss upcoming events and initiatives, ensuring the continued growth and cohesion of Konkans Ireland.

As the sun began to set, Picnic Committee distributed prizes to the winners and to the most active person of the day. Picnic Committee group leader Roman Pereira gave a vote of thanks to his members Santhosh/ Saritha, Rupa/Anthony, Vanitha/Vijay & Jyothi. He also applauded and appreciated the volunteers who helped in every bit on the day. He thanked again all the people who attended the KIG Picnic after which attendees reluctantly packed up their belongings, marking the end of another successful annual picnic. The event was a resounding success, thanks to the hard work of the organisers and the enthusiastic participation of the community members. It was a day filled with laughter, love, and the celebration of Konkani heritage.

Konkans Ireland looks forward to more such gatherings in the future, continuing to strengthen the bonds of their vibrant and close-knit community. The annual picnic at Phoenix Park will undoubtedly be remembered as a highlight of 2024, leaving everyone eagerly anticipating the next event of Monti Fest.
