Mangaluru: Incessant rains flood houses, families relocated to safety

Mangaluru, Aug 1: The water level of the Gurpur Phalguni river rose to dangerous levels due to the incessant rains lashing the city since Wednesday.

Water gushed into the house of Arbee Didpe in Sanjeev early Thursday morning. Fire service personnel from Pandeshwar rushed to the spot.

Fire officer Praveen K N, leading fireman Giridhar, local panchayat member V A Santhosh, president Anil, Kiran Shetty, Sukesh Kottari, and local residents were involved in the rescue operation.

Inmates of Sanjeev's house were relocated by boat to safer places. Local resort houses also got inundated due to the rainwater. This is the first time the water has risen to such a level since 1974. The kitchen of the resort and villa is completely submerged. Lakhs worth of assets are submerged. The panchayat president and local village accountant have visited the spot.
