Udupi, Aug 1: Continued rainfall in Udupi district has caused flooding in many parts of the district.
Rivers in the district are flowing at full capacity, and in many areas, river water has entered households.
Heranje in Brahmavar taluk, along with many parts of Udupi, Kundapur, Byndoor, Karkala, and Hebri taluks, are facing flood situations.
The Kubja river in Kamalashile is also flowing at full capacity, with river water entering the Kamalashile Brahmi Durgaparameshwari temple for a record second time this year. A special pooja was offered on this occasion.
Water has also entered agricultural lands in many parts of the district, causing significant damage. The Swarna river has inundated agricultural fields in Sheembra, Kolalgiri, and surrounding areas.
In Yennehole of Karkala taluk, river water entered many shops. Water has also flooded the historic Sanur Asyud Shahul Hamid Valiyulahi Durga. Heavy rains have caused flooding in many low-lying areas of Hebri and Karkala taluks.
As of the morning of August 1, the rains have ceased, but river water levels have yet to recede.
Barkur is also experiencing severe flooding once again following relentless rains. This marks the second time the village has faced such a calamity in just 15 days.
The region is witnessing the heaviest rainfall in years, significantly disrupting daily life. Schools have been closed due to a red alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Commuters are struggling to reach their workplaces and return home, with major downpours occurring during peak morning and evening hours.
