Udupi: UDWJA to organize seminar on natural calamities on Aug 3

Udupi, Aug 1: In light of the current natural calamities happening everywhere, the Udupi District Working Journalists' Association (UDWJA), in association with the Udupi Patrika Bhavan Committee, is organizing a programme titled 'Artificial Flood Menace - Fire Disaster - Landslide: A Discussion' on August 3, Saturday at 10:30 am at the Udupi Patrika Bhavan.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Udupi Press club on Thursday August 1, association president Rajesh Shetty Alevoor said that the Udupi District Working Journalists' Association is not limited to conducting programmes only for journalists but has organized several programs with social commitment and concern. As part of this, the programme is being organized to discuss natural calamities that are currently relevant and necessary to address.

Every year, artificial floods affect Udupi city, fire disasters are being reported more frequently recently, and landslides are occurring in various places, including the district, necessitating a discussion on these issues.

The main guests for this programme are Udupi city municipal commissioner Rayappa, Udupi district fire department officer Vinayak U Kalgutkar, and senior geologist from Manipal, Dr Uday Shankar, who will discuss these three topics. A dialogue session will follow.

The programme will be presided over by the association president Rajesh Shetty Alevoor. It was informed that not only journalists but also interested public can participate in this programme.

The press conference was attended by the association's general secretary Nazir Polya, treasurer Umesh Marpalli, and secretary Rahim Ujire.
