Davanagere: St Aloysius School celebrates the feast of St Ignatius Loyola

Davanagere, Aug 2: St Aloysius International School and Pre-University College, Amaravati, on the outskirts of Harihar celebrated the feast of St Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuit order renowned for its educational and service institutions worldwide, was celebrated with great fervor.

The event also marked the induction the new student council leaders who will carry the torch of responsibility in the discharge of their duties, adding to the day's significance.

The celebration was honored by the presence of chief guest Ramakrishna P R, the executive officer of Harihar taluk panchayat. In his address, Ramakrishna highlighted the growing issue of drug mafia activities in educational institutions and praised St Aloysius institutions for being a safe and secure environment for students. He urged students to respect and honor teachers, farmers, and soldiers, acknowledging their essential roles in the nation's development.

Guest of honor Durgappa D, the block education officer of Harihar, commended the institution's efforts in creating a disciplined and cultured environment that fosters the development of strong and responsible citizens.

Ceremony Highlights

Fr George KA rector and parish priest of the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Health, Harihar, blessed the occasion. The distinguished guests were ceremoniously escorted to the stage with NCC band honors and were later felicitated with mementos. The event commenced with an interfaith prayer and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the light of knowledge and wisdom. Student Varsha Chaudhari delivered an insightful speech on the significance of the day, setting the tone for the proceedings.

The inauguration of the newly established St Aloysius International School's student council was highlight of the day. The office bearers took their oaths, and the handing over of flags and badges of different colors (red, blue, green, yellow) to various student groups marked a disciplined and captivating ceremony. Fr Vinod AJ SJ the school principal administered the oath to the student office bearers, emphasizing their responsibilities and duties. Melvita Braganza and Mohammed Owais of Class VIII were nominated as head girl and head boy of the school. The principal congratulated the newly formed student council and encouraged the students to develop social concern and leadership qualities, essential for their future roles in society.

Awards and Recognitions

Prizes were distributed to students who excelled in the essay writing and painting competitions focused on the life and ideals of St Ignatius of Loyola.

Fr Eric Mathias SJ, director of the institution, in his presidential address, urged the students to become cultured, compassionate, humane, and enlightened citizens. He also emphasized on the importance of nurturing good morals and humanitarian qualities.

Other dignitaries present on the dais included School academic advisor Grace Noronha, PU college principal Pushpalatha Urs, maintenance officer Fr John Baptist SJ, vice principals Mousin Ulla and Pascal Fernandes, cultural programme coordinators Jose Antony and Stella Roselin, and student representatives.

Cultural programme and conclusion

Following the formal proceedings, the audience was treated to a series of cultural performances by the students of the school and college, showcasing their talents and creativity. The performances provided ample entertainment and were well-received by all attendees.

College student Kumari Bibi Basheera welcomed the guests, Kumari Jhansi anchored the event, and Kumari Navya K Ravi delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the event. The programme concluded with singing of the national anthem, bringing the day's celebrations to a dignified and patriotic close.

The feast of St Ignatius Loyola and the inauguration of the school student council at St Aloysius International School and Pre-University College was a grand and memorable event, reflecting the institution's commitment to educational excellence and holistic development.
