Wall collapse in Moodbidri kills woman

Moodbidri, Aug 2: A woman was killed when the wall of her house collapsed at Borugudde in Nellikar village on Wednesday night.

The deceased, identified as 56-year-old Gopi, was the owner of the house. This marks the first fatality in the taluk during this year’s monsoon.

Gopi’s sons, Ganesh, Rajesh, and Sathish, escaped unharmed as they ran for safety when the wall collapsed. The incident occurred around 10 pm. Gopi, who was seriously injured, was initially taken to Hosmaru hospital and later transferred to Karkala government hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries late in the night.

MLA Umanath Kotian and tahsildar Pradeep V Kurdekar visited the site. The MLA instructed the tahsildar to provide Rs five lac for the reconstruction of the house and Rs 1.2 lac as compensation to the dependents of the deceased.
