Udupi: MLA Yashpal Suvarna inspects Konkan railway station, calls for infrastructure improvements

Udupi, Aug 2: MLA Yashpal Suvarna conducted an inspection of the Konkan railway station on August 2, emphasizing the urgent need for infrastructure upgrades.

Yashpal directed railway authorities to address several issues highlighted by Daijiworld TV, including the lack of a foot-over-bridge, inadequate platforms, insufficient toilet facilities and poor access to clean drinking water.

In response to these concerns, Yashpal instructed the authorities to utilize CSR funds for necessary repairs and to prepare a proposal outlining the required improvements for submission to the government. He also suggested that if the parking area is transferred to the city municipality, the municipality would oversee its development.

Yashpal called for better waste segregation by railway authorities, as per complaints from municipal authorities. He recommended the establishment of a dedicated Udupi tourism counter along with a taxi association at the station to assist and inform tourists about local attractions. He also highlighted the need to clear wild grasses from the station’s surrounding areas, paint the walls of the station and repair the leakage in walls.

MLA Yashpal Suvarna stated, “Once the proposal list is completed, we will determine which works will be funded through CSR, by the city municipality and the railway department. As many people depend on this station for fisheries, education, it is our duty to provide the best service possible.”

Yashpal Suvarna, addressing media said, “Under the Amruth Bharath Yojana, Konkan railway has been earmarked for an upgrade, the plans for this upgrade have been brought to the government’s attention, with discussions covering parking, security and sanitation facilities. The list of basic requirements will be compiled and submitted to the relevant authorities.”

Yashpal indicated that efforts to secure CSR funding, from canara bank, Adani group and other private organizations for projects such as a foot overbridge and platform improvement will be made. The proposal has been submitted to the canara bank, but due to the election it got delayed. He assured to follow up on the initiative for the benefit of the public.

Sudhakrishna Murthy, MPR/Mangaluru, and other officials of Konkan railway department and city municipality were present.
