Udupi: St Mary’s English School, Kannarpady commemorates 'Kargil Vijay Diwas'

Udupi, Aug 3: St Mary’s English School (SMES), Kannarpady, observed the 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26, organised by the 72 JD Troop 6-Karnataka NCC Naval Unit to honour the heroes of the Kargil war.

The event began with a prayer song by NCC cadets, followed by a welcome address from Cadet Disha Anil. Senior cadet Captain Petty Officer Cdt Purvi S Kotian spoke about the historical significance of the Kargil war and the sacrifices made by Indian Army martyrs. Floral tributes were paid to honour the bravery of the soldiers, and patriotic songs by the cadets filled the atmosphere with national pride.

Ex-Flight officer Dr Naveen Amanna and ex-junior warrant officer Manjunath Padithaya, who were honoured as chief guests, spoke about their service during the Kargil war. Dr Amanna urged students to be responsible citizens by upholding integrity in their thoughts and actions.

NCC 'A' certificates were presented to eligible cadets of the 72 JD Troop. In his presidential address, correspondent Fr Charles Menezes praised the valour of Indian soldiers and stressed the importance of safeguarding freedom through patriotism.

Principal Fr Vijay Joyson D'Souza and vice-principal Rita Quadros attended the ceremony. Assistant Navy Officer Lancy Mendonca coordinated the event, and Cadet Adhish proposed the vote of thanks. Cadet Lishika expertly compered the programme.
