Mangaluru, Aug 7: The deputy commissioner (DC) of Dakshina Kannada (DK), Mullai Muhilan, has issued an order permitting electric auto-rickshaws, along with those operating on methanol and ethanol, to freely ply throughout the district.
The previously issued notification mandating blue stickers for Zone 1 and yellow stickers for Zone 2 on all auto rickshaws, including e-rickshaws and those using methanol and ethanol, has been revoked. This requirement was initially set by the police department for identification purposes.
RTO officials have been instructed to strictly enforce this new order. Additionally, the Mangaluru city DCP and the district superintendent of police have been empowered to install necessary informational boards related to this directive.
As per the Motor Vehicles Act, the DC has also directed the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) commissioner and relevant local authorities in other areas to determine designated parking spaces and stopping points for auto-rickshaws.
