Udupi, Aug 7: A tollgate employee was assaulted by a car driver at the Hejamady toll plaza in Udupi district on Tuesday August 6.
Dixit, a 30-year-old toll collector from Belapu village, Kaup, filed a complaint alleging that a man named Saleem, driving a red car with registration number KA-63-M-1512, assaulted him. The incident occurred around 9:20 am.
According to the complaint, Saleem refused to pay the toll fee and demanded to be allowed to pass without payment. When Dixit explained that this was not possible, Saleem became aggressive. He attempted to flee the tollgate by driving through another vehicle but was unsuccessful.
Enraged, Saleem physically assaulted Dixit, causing injuries to his head, shoulder, and face. He also used an umbrella to attack the toll collector. Other staff members intervened to stop the assault.
The Padubidri police registered a case based on Dixit’s complaint and arrested Saleem.
